Annual report 2022

Working creates growth

Dear BPN friends

With perseverance and patience, we overcame the years of the pandemic. In 2022, we were able to focus on our work again. We realized that the world had changed during the years of the pandemic. But our mission has remained the same everywhere: To train and develop people, to support them in their entrepreneurial development and to promote free and independent thinking.
In our work, we have experienced that the people in our areas of activity are still very grateful for our presence and our work. Increasingly, we can also see that our work is bringing about lasting change. We are very proud of the fact that we now have several entrepreneurs in our ranks, particularly in Kyrgyzstan and Rwanda, who are able to achieve above-average growth by tapping into international markets and thus create jobs. But we are also proud when we look at Mongolia and see how things are developing on a small scale. Every change serves as a model for other people to emulate.

Cordially,
Martin Wipfli
Chairman of the Board of Trustees

Unique added value

BPN has been investing in people, their ideas and projects for over two decades. Year after year, this trusting support unfolds manifold human and entrepreneurial potential on 3 continents.

In a business context, finances and professionalism are a basic prerequisite for business progress. However, truly unique value creation is based on a special attitude of the heart. It is about "relationship temperature", recognition, the struggle for understanding, the cultivation and expansion of talents and connections, growing trust - all these matters of the heart create the special breakthroughs!
BPN's "Impact Report" for the years 2019-2021 illustrates our funding practices, shows our diverse activities and makes our actions transparent with figures and graphics. We can confidently disseminate the achievements it reveals - knowing that the key factors in BPN's impressive development are rooted in the congruent values and principles of all those involved and in their joy, as well as in our diligence in our actions and in a caring attitude in our daily work. We appreciate your support and your encouragement for the work of the BPN Foundation. In doing so, you are helping to build livelihoods and regions, which has a "take-off" effect day in, day out.

With full sails, we continue to do everything we can to ensure that our entrepreneurs become and remain champions!

Cordially,
Willi Helbling
CEO

Jimmy

"The more I can contribute to the well-being of my customers, the better off I am too."

Jimmy has created an admirable development of his construction company with impressive work and the determined implementation of BPN's promotional impulses. The company's vision is a shared one - and this is having a major impact: his staff are taking part in what they have learned, are highly motivated and, as a result, the construction company's market performance is well above the Nicaraguan average. With his charitable work for people in poor living conditions, Jimmy is also one of the local pioneers in the public welfare sector.

Sasa

"I am amazed at the wide range of BPN seminars that help me to run my business properly. I particularly appreciate the professionalism of the speakers and the wealth of understandable and practical information"

"I stumbled across the idea of making soaps by chance," says Sasa. When one of his teenage children developed skin rashes, he was looking for a natural product to counteract the problem. Since 2019, he has been running a soap factory together with his family. His self-developed products, which are based on Georgian plants and flowers, are now also set to become the recipe for his entrepreneurial success. Discover in the video how Sasa wants to professionalize his hobby and what you can contribute!"

Johnson, bakery and confectionery in Kigali

"In the beginning, I wasn't convinced I needed BPN's advice. I only wanted one thing: to make money. The very first workshop made it clear what entrepreneurship means. Without BPN's clear direction, my business would no longer exist today."

Johnson, who runs an "online bakery and pastry shop" - i.e. without a fixed place of business - in Kigali, is the youngest BPN entrepreneur. He not only almost tripled his turnover in 2022, but also revolutionized the pastry industry in Rwanda. During the pandemic, Johnson discovered his passion at the tender age of 19: serving cakes "online". He actually just wanted to earn some pocket money, but the huge demand surprised him. He put his studies on hold and so "Johnson The Baker" was born. This year, he and his young and creative team expanded the product range to include coffee rolls, brownies and pancakes. Thanks to Twitter and Instagram, his range was on everyone's lips. The customer base expanded into the middle and upper segments (banks, insurance companies). As sales and revenue soared, Johnson was able to expand the team from 6 to 12 employees.

"Thanks to BPN, I calculated the right price to cover the production costs, achieve the desired margin and at the same time meet the customer's willingness to pay."

Zul specializes in elegant women's clothing. She develops and produces tailor-made women's suits and coats as well as evening dresses and combines them with hand-painted silk painting. This noble and exquisite combination is unique in Mongolia. She also produces women's clothing on behalf of banks, schools and office workers. We supported Zul with coaching, particularly in financial management. Zul wants to further improve her market position.

What began in the confined space of the municipal children's hospital grounds is now a three-division company with 15 employees. Nurlan's company includes a dental laboratory, a radiology department and a training project for young professionals. Using digital technology, all types of dental structures of any complexity are modeled and produced in the shortest possible time. Nurlan has been developing his discipline for around 25 years and first took part in the BPN program 8 years ago. He says: "For me, BPN offers a special training opportunity. Thanks to the valuable experience of the Swiss experts, I was able to expand my business and develop my employees and my children.
