Thea has been running a family hotel in Mestia, a popular tourist resort in the Greater Caucasus at around 1500 meters above sea level, since 2008. She and her husband grew up in this place and have strong local roots. Thanks to long-standing partnerships with travel agencies and a loyal customer base built up over the years, the existing hotel infrastructure is regularly bursting at the seams, especially during the high season. So Thea's family, who support her in the business, decided to build a modern hotel with 31 rooms, a large restaurant, conference room, sauna and rooftop wine bar in the immediate vicinity.
Thea's husband is an engineer and was closely involved in the planning and construction of the hotel. He attached great importance to good thermal and sound insulation of the rooms. A solar water heating system was installed on the roof. Thanks to the built-in elevator and barrier-free rooms, the entire hotel complex will be accessible to guests in wheelchairs. This is an absolute novelty in a place like Mestia. In addition to conventional twin and double rooms, small apartments for families with children round off the comprehensive range of accommodation on offer.
The building is nearing completion and is due to open for the 2023/24 winter season. The new building will catapult the company into a new dimension: the number of employees will grow from 15 to 40, operating processes will need to be formalized and additional marketing efforts will be required to attract new guests. Thea is looking forward to further support from the BPN Foundation in this important process. She has already attended several seminars with us.
