Travelogue: Nicaragua

3 - 11 February 2024
The BPN trip to Nicaragua took us to a world where entrepreneurship and cultural diversity intertwine and offered us a unique insight into the Central American country. Our days were filled with encounters that were both inspiring and educational, taking us from the bustling atmosphere of Managua to the historic ruins of León Viejo, via the picturesque streets of Granada to the mangrove river of Juan Venado National Park.

The visits to local entrepreneurs, from refreshing frozen drinks to a salt saline, butchery, bakery and leather goods factory in Granada, opened our eyes to the diversity and challenges faced by Nicaraguan business people. These personal stories of determination and success were not only inspiring, but also a testament to the work and commitment of the local BPN team in Nicaragua.

Between the company visits, cultural excursions and culinary experiences - from lunch at Cerdito Crujiente (also a BPN entrepreneur) to dinner at Mi Ranchito - provided ample opportunity to experience Nicaraguan culture. Other highlights were the city tours in León and Granada, as well as the view into the active crater of the Masaya volcano.

The trip was also a time for reflection and sharing over meals together and an insight into the BPN business plan workshop, where we delved deeper into the business world of Nicaragua and gained valuable insights into the work of BPN. The visit to the Flor de Caña rum factory and the quiet moments in the mangroves or on the beach provided a welcome change of pace and relaxation.

In summary, our trip to Nicaragua was an intense experience that left us not only with unforgettable memories, but also with a deep understanding of the complexities of entrepreneurship in a developing country. This trip was more than a simple exploration; it was a mind and soul enrichment that showed us the countless possibilities that arise when passion and dedication meet fertile ground.

BPN greatly appreciates the exchange with its supporters and would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants for their time and interest in BPN's activities. The trip to Nicaragua not only offered the opportunity to get to know the work of the BPN Foundation on site, but also to immerse oneself in a fascinating culture. Shared experiences like this remain in our memories and enrich our lives.
