Mario studied civil engineering with a focus on the environment and then completed his doctorate in Mexico. Since the age of 14, he has worked on his parents' farm, which he has now taken over completely and manages according to certified ecological standards.
Mario has managed to increase the area under cultivation fivefold since he took over the farm. In order to achieve better margins, Mario began to process and market coffee and honey himself instead of just selling the raw products. Gradually, other typical traditional Nicaraguan foods and drinks were added, for which he produces most of the raw materials on his farm. This also allows him to realize his vision of having a positive impact not only on nature, but also on society by creating jobs.
Mario realized that he needed help with business management and so he came to BPN. In the selection process alone, Mario says he learned a huge amount and gained clarity, even if it was a challenge to get the finances in order, for example. At BPN, he also realized that he needed to define his customer segment more clearly and price accordingly, for a customer who is willing to pay more for natural, healthy products. Mario is aiming for further growth by hiring a salesperson, expanding production and selling in supermarkets as well as exporting, as the many Nicaraguans who have emigrated want to be able to enjoy traditional products abroad.
