Sandra is not only changing the landscape of traditional Rwandan clothing, she is also on a mission to make women feel comfortable in their own skin. Sandra founded her fashion company in 2019. Initially, she ran her growing business alongside her full-time job. In spring 2022, Sandra ended her long successful career in marketing and sales to focus fully on her company. She has acquired valuable technical skills through self-study, research, and skilled tailoring, and plans to further expand her knowledge through courses in tailoring, fabric science, and hand embroidery.
Sandra's fashion is aimed at middle and high income Rwandan women who appreciate individual and distinctive traditional clothing "Umushanana". The company's main products are customized traditional clothing and traditional clothing for rent. Sandra has a large showroom, 3 fitting rooms and a workshop where she designs outfits that celebrate Rwanda's cultural heritage and convey body confidence. She uses social media platforms to showcase her creations and attract customers who can then make a personalized selection in her store.
Sandra's vision is to change the perception of Umushanana, the traditional dress of Rwandan women, by combining it with modern fashion. She wants to empower women by making clothes that suit their skin color, body type, comfort and occasion. She also hopes to expand her business to urban areas in Rwanda and the East African Community to promote the connection between modern fashion and traditional roots.
