Law firm

Margaret B.

Margaret was born in Uganda as the 12th of 15 children and learned the art of negotiation and advocacy in the lively atmosphere of her family home. The genocide of the Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994 left a lasting impression on Margaret and awakened in her a desire to see justice done to the victims of these atrocities. After completing her studies, she returned to Rwanda where she worked as a prosecutor and was instrumental in translating the Rwandan constitution into English. To deepen her legal knowledge, she traveled to the United States to continue her training as a lawyer. After an instructive decade in the American legal landscape, she left her established position to start her own law firm in Rwanda.

Project description

In 2018, Margaret opened her own law firm together with her husband and another lawyer. Her main goal was to change the public perception of legal services in Rwanda, where legal prevention and compliance are more important than legal representation in case of conflict. Margaret offers a wide range of legal services to corporations and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). She also takes on pro bono cases.

Over the last 5 years, Margaret's firm has grown to become one of the top 10 law firms in Rwanda, a testament to her tireless efforts and ethical approach. What sets her firm apart from others is not only the outstanding quality of her legal knowledge but also her expertise in corporate governance. In the future, Margaret plans to offer internships and traineeships specifically for young female lawyers from rural areas.
