Bakery

Joie Grace N.

Joie Grace, wants to make a difference in her community with her passion for baking and her commitment to healthy living. She has a bachelor's degree in food science and technology. In 2019, as she was working on her research proposal during her senior year, she noticed that vegetable farmers in her area were experiencing tremendous post-harvest losses. This opened her eyes to the plight of local farmers who face significant post-harvest losses due to limited market access. Inspired by her love of baking, she began combining carrots and amaranth with flour to create a unique, nutritious bread to counteract post-harvest losses.

Project description

Joie Grace searched tirelessly for funding opportunities and her efforts were rewarded when she won the Belgian Women Entrepreneurship Competition AWA. In 2020, Joie Grace took the plunge and started her own business, a bakery specializing in the production of carrot and amaranth bread. With her innovative creations, she counts both health-conscious middle-class families and busy professionals among her customers. She sells her products in local supermarkets and small stores in the neighborhood.

Joie Grace's vision is to build a modern bread factory that not only processes vegetables and carrots, but also serves as a beacon for the production of nutritious baked goods. Joie Grace acknowledges that there are areas where she needs to improve, including financial management, market expansion and creating solid organizational structures to build a sustainable business. She looks forward to being supported in these areas through the BPN program.
