As part of an innovative labor market project in Rwanda, 25 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) were recently given access to a special job fair format for the first time. While such recruitment events were previously reserved for large companies, the needs of SMEs were now specifically taken into account. The job fair organized by BPN Rwanda not only offered new opportunities for SMEs, but also for disadvantaged applicants, including refugees and people with disabilities.
The turnout was impressive: a total of 110 people took part in the fair, including 25 companies and 86 applicants. The organization ensured that each advertised position attracted at least 4 qualified candidates who were interviewed directly on site. The event was held under the motto of inclusion: people with visual and hearing impairments had the same chance of a job interview as everyone else.
Some success stories are already known. For example, one participant who had found a job in an SME through the fair was very positive about the benefits offered there. Government representatives and partner organizations also took part in the event. In the meantime, the first figures on contract conclusions are also available: 5 young people received an employment contract directly. Another 10 people have started an internship - with the prospect of a permanent position after successfully completing their internship. We would like to congratulate all those involved!
The success of this first event has encouraged the organizers to offer the format annually, possibly even biannually, with an additional event in the city of Musanze in the future. This commitment underlines the potential of the fair as an integral part of the Rwandan labor market and as a bridge between SMEs and a diverse, often underrepresented talent base.
