Pet food

Jackson K.

Jackson has a clear mission: to make animal feed sustainable and affordable. Having grown up in Kenya and returned to Rwanda with his family in 2012, he began studying at the University of Rwanda a year later - supported by a government scholarship. Inspired by personal experiences with the government's "one cow per household" program, he searched for solutions to feed supply during his studies and discovered the potential of hydroponics - a cultivation method in which plants are grown without soil, using only water and nutrients.

Project description

Jackson used this innovative technology to lay the foundations for his own company in 2019. Setbacks such as the destruction of his first greenhouse due to storms did not dampen his entrepreneurial spirit. He financed the reconstruction through employment with the food authority until he was able to further develop his company in 2021 thanks to a grant from the Mastercard Foundation. 2 years later, he ventured into full self-employment.

Today, the company produces hydroponic animal feed on its own land, employs 9 people and is continuously expanding into other districts of Rwanda. Jackson's vision is to create a scalable model for the region that makes farmers more independent and conserves resources. Participation in the BPN program helps him to sharpen his strategy and reach his target group even more effectively.
