Seed Production

Christelle U.

Having grown up in a rural, agricultural setting, the entrepreneur developed an understanding of the challenges facing the agricultural sector at an early age. After completing an apprenticeship in the healthcare sector, she gained her first entrepreneurial experience by starting her own service company.

She recognized the high demand for high-quality potato seed and its limited availability during an entrepreneurship program. This led to the idea of starting her own business in the field of seed propagation.

When she founded her company, she shifted her professional focus entirely to agriculture. Since then, she has gained valuable experience in production management, customer acquisition, and business management.

She is particularly distinguished by her ability to identify market needs early on and develop concrete business opportunities based on them. In doing so, her work is grounded in initiative, determination, and entrepreneurial thinking.

As part of the BPN program, she hopes to deepen her knowledge of financial management, business organization, and strategic planning. The goal is to professionalize the company’s operational structures and lay the groundwork for sustainable business growth.

Project description

The company specializes in the production of high-quality potato seed. Its goal is to provide farms with reliable access to high-quality, affordable seed, thereby improving agricultural yields.

The company was able to establish itself as a supplier of potato seed in a short period of time. Its customers include seed propagation facilities, agricultural companies, NGOs, and agricultural projects.

The company currently employs five full-time staff members as well as additional seasonal workers. Production takes place in rented greenhouses. A key challenge is to build up its own production capacity and further develop its internal financial and administrative processes.

Long-term plans include expanding greenhouse capacity, establishing an in-house seed research laboratory, and acquiring additional farmland. In addition, the company aims to tap into new markets in East Africa, create more jobs, and develop an online platform for ordering seeds.
