Shoe production

Open

Sharifa U.

Sharifa is an entrepreneur who has turned her passion for fashion and social engagement into a growing business. After losing her job during the COVID-19 pandemic, she used this turning point to dedicate herself to her long-held fascination for shoe design. With the goal of increasing the presence of women in male-dominated trades, she taught herself the craft of shoemaking and began producing stylish, durable and affordable sandals for middle-class families.

With a degree in business administration and professional experience in customer service, Sharifa initially founded her company alone. Thanks to her determination, the business grew quickly - today she employs 12 people, mostly young women. Production takes place in a three-room workshop, while sales take place in the company's own store in one of Kigali's busiest shopping centers. The brand is known for its fashionable designs, customer focus and solid quality.

Project description

Sharifa initially managed the company from abroad, supported by her husband. They are now both back in Rwanda and run the company together: he is responsible for marketing and operational processes, while she takes care of product development and corporate strategy.

Sharifa is taking part in the BPN program to further develop her leadership and management skills, particularly in the areas of marketing, quality management and operational efficiency. Her vision is to establish a regional shoe brand with its own production facility and training center.
