Waste Management

Noel N.

Noelcompleted a degree in agroforestry and soil and environmental management . For 6 years, he invested the knowledge he gained there in optimizing waste management in Rwanda and in the production of organic fertilizer from waste products. Alreadyduring his studies, Noel and some of his colleagues decided to look for a solution to the waste management situation at that time. Over the course of three years, they carried out various studies, assessed the existing infrastructure and discovered how poorly organized the waste collection system was. The small amount of waste collected was being disposed of in a very rough and unhygienic manner; the waste was piling up, causing various serious health and social hazards.

Project description

So Noel founded his own waste disposal company. He has already successfully secured an open-ended contract with the state for waste collection in the city. The contractalsoincludes approval for waste separation and solid waste management in Huye, the southern province ofRwanda. In addition, Noel uses the organic waste to produce packaged organic fertilizers for medium andlarge farmers, which are distributed throughout the country.

Noel has set itself the goal of achieving a zero-waste recycling rate in Rwanda by developing and adapting cutting-edge technologies for the management of municipal solid waste. Currently, Noel's company is increasing its compost production capacity by approximately 400 tons per year. Noel and its partners are young, smart, energetic and committed to be part of the solution providers for Rwanda's ecology and economy.
