Confectionery

Janet G.

Janet lived in England with her husband and children before the family decided to return to her home country of Rwanda. Janet grew up with a passion for cooking and baking. The decision to start her own patisserie business resulted from a disappointment when she wanted to give her young child a birthday cake shortly after her return to Rwanda. She was shocked by the poor quality of the cakes available on the market and the boring design of the celebration cakes on offer.

Project description

In 2015, Janet started her own business in her kitchen at home. At first she supplied people from her own network before opening a store in a new neighborhood in Kigali and later moving to an upscale area of the city. Janet's business has gained popularity, especially in the Anglo community of Kigali, so much so that some loyal customers have coined her slogan: "You know your friends love you when they offer you a cake from Janet."

Janet has gained considerable practical experience over the last 7 years and believes she needs to take the next step to expand her business to other regions. She plans to open 3 new stores in Kigali in the coming years and wants to develop from a pastry shop to a cake factory exporting bakery products to other countries in the East African region. She decided to take on this challenge and recognized the need to expand her business knowledge, which is why she decided to join the BPN program. Janet is supported by her husband, who contributes with his creativity to find unique ways to create a good customer experience. The BPN program is also designed to help Janet be more strategic in her business decisions.
