Mental Health

Laure I.

The 36-year-old Laure studied in the USA and trained in Rwanda as a "certifiedn lay counselor" in Rwanda. In this area Laure has 6 years of professional experience. In her early adultlife Laure went through difficult times and struggled with various mental disorders. Dome of these were depression, which had its origins in her childhood. In these difficult moments, she asked herself herself Laure: "How many of us are slowly dying from this?". The rwandian history is of much painz markedwhich has led to intergenerational trauma in the rwandic community. The lack of awareness of mental health and the stigma associated with talking about mental health do not provide an ideal starting point for the Rwandan population.

Project description

Like many wanderers, Laure realized after a long journey of soul-searching that her mission is to contribute to the healing of generations. Her vision is therefore to build a wellness center that offers psychotherapy and a place to heal after rehabilitation, as well as training counselors to steadily increase the number of people being served. Laure has since become self-employed in this field and currently works with a team of 4 counselors. So far, she and her team have looked after around 2,000 clients (patients).

Laure is a very determined entrepreneur and determined to establish a functioning mental health system in Rwanda. Laure feels that her company has operated with little to no structure since it was founded, which has not led to any noticeable growth to date. She would therefore like to tackle the development of her company together with BPN and work on better structures.
