Shoe production

Emmanuel K.

Emmanuel spent his early years in a rural area of the city of Kigali and has never left this place. Even as a boy, he dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur. A few years ago, he opened a bakery, but it had to close after a few months. This experience made him vow not to start another business until he had the necessary technical and business management skills.

One of his brothers inspired him to attend a shoemaking course. After completing the course and with only 30 dollars, he started making sandals five years ago. Today, Emmanuel and his team produce all kinds of footwear. He has kept his promise: he actively participates in the BPN seminars and learns how to develop his footwear business in the long term through our guidance and advice.

Project description

Emmanuel's shoe manufacturing company aims to produce durable, presentable and affordable goods for the lower and middle classes. "I want to enable those who can't afford the best quality to still be able to wear our products for a long time," says the young entrepreneur. To gain access to his target clientele, Emmanuel sells a large part of his production to retailers who buy from him in bulk and offer the shoes at public markets. As wearing shoes is a legal requirement in Rwanda, Emmanuel's business model has great potential. The poorest part of the population buys plastic shoes that are comparable to Crocs. This section of society already buys his products for special occasions (such as weddings).
