Project description

After completing her bachelor's degree in economics at the National University of Rwanda, she supported her husband for several years in his environmental consulting work. During one of her assignments on deforestation, Alice became increasingly aware of the associated environmental problems. It was during this time that she realized that most households in Rwanda use fuel in the form of firewood and charcoal. As the population grows, more wood is needed, which has an impact on deforestation. In addition, cooking with firewood is associated with a high risk of lung disease. Alice has therefore developed a solution that reduces the consumption of wood: she produces stoves and cooking facilities that are clean, durable and affordable. Overall, her energy-saving stove uses 50 percent less regular fuel than conventional cooking facilities in Rwanda.

On the one hand, Alice's company produces energy-saving stoves - a charcoal-powered cooking option - which are mainly used in urban households. On the other hand, it produces a gasifier powered by pellets and firewood, which is also used in urban and neighboring households.

Alice currently sells more than 250 cooking facilities per month. She expects the turnover of her business to increase even further over the next few years. In order to drive this development forward in the best possible way, she has turned to BPN.
