In the province of Zavkhan in western Mongolia, which is known for its rich livestock breeding tradition, the ambitious entrepreneur and livestock farmer Naranchimeg has created an extraordinary company. Always driven by the desire to go beyond the boundaries of traditional livestock farming, Naranchimeg founded her own company in 2007. Her entrepreneurial journey began with the preparation of lunches for school children, supported by 2 employees. She never lost sight of her ultimate goal: to create a unique product from the milk of her yaks.
The idea of transforming yak milk, a traditional product of their homeland, into an innovative and sustainable business model led to the production of ice cream in 2022. Naranchimeg, which has always been keen to minimize waste, used the rich and nutritious yak milk to produce two types of ice cream: Milk ice cream and chocolate ice cream. This ice cream is characterized by its natural richness and taste, without artificial additives or trans fats.
Their business, 500 kilometers from the capital Ulaanbaatar, is a prime example of the use of modern technology in harmony with traditional resources. Equipped with an ice cream machine, a cup machine and freezers, Naranchimeg currently employs 3 people. It sells its products in a nearby village with a population of around 7,000, including 1,800 children, and plans to expand its market presence to other districts of Zavkhan.
Naranchimeg wants to increase the branding and awareness of her unique product. She still sees great potential in Mongolia, where there is no comparable ice cream made from yak milk. Her story is an impressive example of how traditional practices and modern entrepreneurship can go hand in hand to open up new markets while helping to preserve local culture and the environment.
