Medina M.

Medina was already creative as a child and dreamed of becoming a designer. After finishing elementary school, she began studying clothing and fashion design. During her studies, she worked as a fashion designer for a large clothing company, where she was responsible for designing new garments and selecting fabrics. In 2019, she opened her own small sewing workshop and founded her own company.

Project description

Medina started with 3 employees and now employs 20, about half of whom are do-it-yourselfers. They produce women's clothing such as dresses and coats and use leftovers and scraps to make handicrafts, carpets and other works of art using the Kurak system (pachworking). Medina now even buys expensive fabric scraps from other clothing stores in Kyrgyzstan and China. "Creativity is my raison d'être, I want to make history," says Medina about herself. "Many women in the villages are sitting at home without work, but they can sew. I want to help them." In the future, Medina would like to expand the kurak business, as the costs are low, the waste can be recycled and the profit margins are high. The production of kurak is actually difficult and time-consuming, but Medina has found a way to simplify the process.

Medina has bought a small boutique container at a wholesale market near Osh, from which she sells her products and receives new orders. She is very active on social media and also finds new customers there. She has already completed her first seminars at BPN and is already looking forward to the next ones. At the moment, Medina mainly needs coaching, because as a young, talented designer she receives many cooperation offers from companies, designers and exhibitions so that she doesn't lose focus.
